KERRIMUIR UNITED CC (posted 19 Dec '09) Club Stalwart Reaches 250 Game Milestone - by Paul Hooper (The Neutral Corner)
Paul Beven from Kerrimuir United CC reached a 250-game milestone earlier this month (12 Dec '09). This 2-time Club champion started at KUCC in the late 1970’s as a junior and played his first senior game when he was 12 in Season 83/84. Most of Paul’s 250 senior games have been played in the First X1 but unfortunately due to injury and a season at North Melbourne, it could have been more. Although he’s a very humble man, Paul has had many highlights in his career including being Captain / Coach of the Premiership winning first X1 in A2 Grade of the BHRDCA in 2002/03. Another highlight is taking his 450th wicket for the club only last week against Templestowe. Paul lists the great players he has played with at Kerrimuir United CC as all-rounder, Stuart Harrison and the late Kirk Robson who was tragically killed in a car accident in 2005. Kirk made a ton in the 2002/03 Premiership and was the last game that Paul played with him. Current players, Matt Stella and Jordan Wise are another couple of KUCC stalwarts with amazing pride and passion for their club. Paul lists Nick Tsiontinas from Templestowe CC as one of the hardest opposition batsmen to get out. As a true clubman, Paul has been Social Co-ordinator and Junior Coach for 7 years. He has spent 30 years at his club and says although they don’t have the best facilities or ground, they have wonderful people which has given him life long memories. Kerrimuir United CC are a club on the rise and after being Runners-up 2 years ago they are looking to go the next step and progress to MacIntosh Shield in the BHRDCA. Another great pleasure for Paul is watching his son, Joshua coming through the club’s Milo cricket program. Could we see the “Beven” tradition continue at this club? There is no doubt! * * * * * GLEN WAVERLEY HAWKS CC (posted 19 Dec '09) 200 up for Hawks Legend - by Chris “Turtle” Briginshaw
Recently (12 Dec '09) the Glen Waverley Hawks CC celebrated a milestone when life member and club legend Graham Cuddon played his 200th game for the club. “Cuddles” arrived at the Hawks nest in 1985 and since has held every office-bearing position at the club, the only man to do so. Graham was also on the BHRDCA permits & clearance committee for a number of years. He is the 3rd leading run scorer in the clubs history and at 65 years of age Graham played in his first premiership last season. Graham’s enthusiasm in developing “the kids” has ensured that most players at the club have been influenced by him, many wondering how a guy can score all his runs on the cut shot.
At 65 years of age most people are hitting the bowling greens or heading into the umpiring ranks, slowing down in life a little – not Cuddles who, while continuing to represent the Hawks on Saturday, started playing over 60’s cricket on a Sunday where he can converse with people on subjects over 60’s are all familiar with. Pensions, retirement homes, medical conditions - hip and knee replacements, dementia etc, music (Vera Lynn, Mario Lanza, even Elvis Presley, Tom Jones and Bonny Tyler), events of their time – 1930 depression, World War 1 and 2, Federation. Mention these at the Hawks and he is met with a blank stare. Cuddles has represented Victoria in the past four over 60 carnivals (including this year's in Tasmania) and travelled to England as part of an Australian over 60’s team. On behalf of the Glen Waverley Hawks CC I wish to congratulate Graham for his efforts and to acknowledge 200 quality games. I hope we continue to see the veteran greying little man plenty more times in the future – a true Hawks legend! * * * * * BOX HILL NORTH CC (posted 2 Dec '09) Wild storm unroofs clubrooms.
The severe weather that battered Blackburn and Box Hill last week took a heavy toll on Elgar Park Box Hill North. When Box Hill North CC members next ventured down to the club they found their pavilion roof embedded in the ground hundreds of metres across the park. The club has reported severe water damage to most of the pavilion's contents which can't be fully evaluated or attempts made at salvage until council allows access to the damaged structure. Photo's of storm damage to Box Hill North CC's facilities can be viewed on the Whitehorse Leader website. * * * * * BULLEEN/TEMPLESTOWE CC (posted 30 Nov '09) 3rd time lucky?
