Two weeks later (17 Feb) Donvale CC, on behalf of Eastern CA, will similarly host their annual challenge between our two associations at Donvale Reserve (Mel: 48.F3). Neither of these traditional encounters will include open-age teams this season but our established U16, U14 and U12 squads will be out in full force to re-ignite the inter-association rivalry that we and our neighbouring associations have had for some time. Unfortunately last season saw the drought take its toll and force abandonment of these matches but we have been more fortunate this time. Please make a point of visiting these matches to support our junior teams. The BHRDCA places a great deal of importance on representative cricket, especially at under-age level. Support of such games by our clubs and their following is essential to ensure that such challenge matches continue to inspire. * * * VMCU SHIELD (JNR) SQUADS FINALIZED (posted 30 Dec '07)

* * * Open Representative Challenges Unlikely to Proceed (posted 24 Dec '07)
Despite efforts to recruit team officials for our annual open-age representative cricket challenges against the RDCA and ECA this season it now seems unlikely that this tradition will continue, at least for 2007/08. Falling interest among players and volunteers alike had seen these games at risk for some time but the forced abandonment of all our open and under-age representative cricket last season due to the drought may have dealt them a death blow. Just a few days remain to confirm arrangements with our opponents while the prospect looms very real that no open-age representative challenge will be conducted this season. Volunteers are essential at all levels of the game but community cricket in particular relies almost exclusively on such contributors. Representative team management is just one area where a lack of volunteers will produce an immediate effect, in this case - no volunteers means no teams. Unfortunately our existing volunteers are already committed beyond 'saturation point' and simply can't afford to make an additional contribution. It may be an indictment on the association that of the more than 3,000 weekly adult participants involved with 46 affiliates we are unable to enthuse enough for maintenance of our existing activities. * * * JUNIOR REPRESENTATIVE PRACTICE MATCHES (posted 4 Dec '07)
On Sunday 9 December at Terarra Park (Mel: 62.J7), BHRDCA squads in all three junior age-groups (U16, U14 and U12) will play practice matches against Diamond Valley CA. The following U16 and U14 players are required to present at the ground no later than 9:15am ready to play in correct cricket attire (U12s have already been notified) - U16: Kieren Dwyer, Andrew Yeo, Jarryd deHaas, Jason Dugg, Jake Wilcos, Thomas McDonald, David Rankin, Jarryd Taun-Henderson, Xavier Barry-Murphy, Chris Guidetti, Nick Rodwell, Anthony Bucello, Jake Brook, Brett Casterson, Matthew Herschell and Sam Russell. U14: James Cran, Callum Haughey, Mitchell Fitton, Luke Marshall, Matthew Grace, Chinthuran Thilagarajan, Ross Meyer, Aaron Taun-Henderson, Kiruba Sathiyaseelan, Mitch Keogh, Dean Bunter, Thomas Black, Blake Thompson, Simon Bowlt, Daniel Greenwood, William Lewis and Joshua Baron. U12: Patrick Walter (C), Liam Smith (VC), Shehan Kudage-Don, Max Healey, James Merrett, Umais Memon, James Wrigley, Scott Edwards, Brendan Grace, Josh King, Luke Moon, Joseph Issamael and Jake McIldowney. These 13 players form part of a larger 23 member training squad.
All take note that these squads will be further reduced to just 14 members each prior to the VMCU carnival and inter-association challenge rounds scheduled for January and February '08. A final cut of the 23 member U12 squad down to 14 will be on Fri 4 Jan '08. Equipment & Attire: Players should bring their own kit or borrow the necessary equipment from their club. All are to ensure they have a serviceable helmet and appropriate cricket cap/hat. Luncheon: In the tradition of home team host, each player is also asked to bring a plate of sandwiches or cut fruit and cake (enough for two). This will be laid-out by staff as luncheon for players from both associations. Umpires and officials will be provided for by the Vermont South CC. Contact: All players are required to attend regardless of the weather. Anyone unable to attend for any reason should contact Ross Chambers (0432 66 0951). * * * NEIL WRIGHT SHIELD - R3 Team Selected for 2 Dec (posted 31 Nov '07)

Our first U21 Neil Wright Shield match is scheduled in just two weeks (18 Nov) and still no one has volunteered to manage this team. With business pressures making it impossible for Maurie O'Dal to continue in the role after several dedicated seasons an invitation for expressions of interest was issued in mid September, not only to fill this position but also other representative team management and support roles. BHRDCA is committed to the VMCU Wright Shield competition this season and will proceed despite the obvious difficulties of team selection and player familiarization. However, our open representative cricket calendar now appears unlikely to proceed. If our offering to the state's premier under 21 competition can't attract even one expression of interest for the position of team manager, an indispensable role, then it is difficult to imagine that such interest will suddenly materialize for inter-association challenge matches. Our Neil Wright Shield encounters will be over three Sundays in late November and early December with finals in January as follows - 18 Nov '07: v Jika @ Brunswick (VDSCA)
25 Nov '07: v DDCA @ DDCA (Nominated venue - TBA)
02 Dec '07: v VTCA Nth @ VTCA (Nominated venue - TBA) 09 Dec '07: Reserve Day
13 Jan '08: Semi-Finals
27 Jan '08: Finals @ Fitzroy-Doncaster (Premier)

For training and matches you will be required to present in appropriate cricket practice attire and bring your own equipment. Where players don't have their own, it is usual practice for their respective clubs to loan them enough gear (bat, gloves, pads, helmet etc) to participate in representative matches. It should also be noted that matches are played on turf and players may wish to consider acquiring spiked footwear. The association reserves the right to consider additional players should it become necessary. * * * REP' TEAM MANAGERS SOUGHT (posted 15 Sep '07)
