MITCHAM TOO GOOD FOR HEATHMONT   (posted 5 Mar '10)
(Two-In-A-Row for Tigers)

A great crowd was assembled at Walker Park last Sunday (28 Feb) to see if the Mitcham CC could extend their two season unbeaten run and win back to back premierships (and their 3rd in four seasons). Opponents Heathmont under the directorship of Veterans legend Frank McCann had done an excellent job to rise from bottom last season to the Grand Final. Heathmont batted first McCann again leading from the front but only Green gave him appreciable support and their final tally of 150 was always going to be hard to defend. Mitcham’s bowling had again set them up with McNeice and West outstanding.

Despite losing their skipper early, Mitcham set about building an excellent 2nd wicket partnership between Cay and the evergreen Kev Howell that gradually moved them towards their target. Both batsmen chanced their arm and the writing was on the wall for Heathmont that they had to break the partnership if they were to have any chance. Dave Sutton carried on the good work of his team mates and whilst the Heathmont bowling was very steady, without enough runs to cover, the end result was inevitable and Mitcham ran out the A Division Premiers with a great 6 to win the game.

Heathmont   9/150
McCann 39, Green 27, McNeice 3/14, West 3/20, George 2/24
defeated by
Mitcham   3/154
Cay 40no, Howell 38, Sutton 23no, Virinith 1/21, Horner 1/23

ANNUAL CHALLENGE v RINGWOOD & DISTRICT CA   (posted 27 Nov '09)
(Hosted by RDCA Sunday 13 Dec '09)

Earlier this month all clubs with veteran teams competing were contacted seeking nominations of their brightest and best for the annual 'grey brigade' to engage traditional foe RDCA at cricket, this time in three age-groups -

  • getting past it (over-40),
  • well past it (over-50),
  • forget it (over-60) ...

... and of course then there's the cricket. ... (Get the full story from our "Representative Cricket" page).

Veterans on MyCricket   (posted 23 Oct '09)

The season for Veterans hits of this weekend (Sun 25 Oct) and fixtures will again be available online from the MyCricket competition management system (links are top-right). While some took the opportunity to enter results and player performances in MyCricket last season the association through its Veterans' Sub-Committee has decided to use these online services for lodgement of all match reports during 2009/10.

With final fixtures only just completed (some tweaks also to come as the season progresses) and emailed to all clubs, they will likely be published live on MyCricket by the weekend in time for clubs to regisiter players and enter teams in preparation for their first round reports. The sub-committee has requested all match reports be entered by the home clubs no later than Wednesday evening after each match. This is a bit more liberal than requirements for other BHRDCA competitions that have been using the system for some time. Those responsible for entering match reports would still benefit from looking over the formal procedures published for those competitions despite the veterans time frame being less demanding. Also, non-compliance penalties noted in those procedures don't apply to Veterans' Cricket.

Anyone who needs access to MyCricket for entering match reports should contact their club Secretary or I.T. Department to be issued with the necessary login information. If any club doesn't have access then the Secretary should contact John Toogood (BHRDCA Secretary) by email or phone 03 9878 8983 or 04 1173 9790. Each new MyCricket user receives an automated introduction to the system that is sufficient to get started. Once logged in you will find plenty of help files and user guides but extra assistence is also available from your club and the association if needed.

By now everyone will be aware that our long serving Veterans' Cricket Coordinator Peter White has been laid low with illness and his trusty deputy Tony Hawkins has run-with-the-ball for us during the immediate and very busy pre-season period. Our thanks to Tony for completing the always arduous and time critical task of putting together workable but accommodating fixtures. Also the BHRDCA Committee of Management wishes Peter a full and speedy recovery.

Highlights of Veterans' Cricket   (posted 1 Aug '09)

This is our dedicated Veterans' Cricket webpage. Here you can access periodic newsletters and read about the many 'tall tales & true ...' that tend to materialize when you gather together a lot of good-natured, 'mature-aged' champions (and others) of our game. In addition there will likely be some space left over for any highlights of the season, representative games etc.

If your club has an event that you would like to promote on the BHRDCA website then our 'Member News' page is available. Check out the "Representative Cricket" page for details of our annual challenge v RDCA as they are announced. Come back often and be sure you don't miss anything.
