NEWS FROM OUR VETERANS' CRICKET COMPETITION

Season - 2007/08

Ringwood & District Over 40s too strong for Box Hill Reporter   (posted: 17 Dec '07)

After losing the toss and getting off to a shaky start RDCA recovered to finish with a competitive 9/152cc from their allotted 36 overs despite spirited bowling from BHRDCA captain Chris Box with figures of 3/4 in the weekend's (16 Dec) annual over 40 challenge. For RDCA a fine captains knock by Dale Goldsmith who finished on 42no.

In response our guys could only manage 129 before being dismissed with two overs remaining. BHRDCA batting honours went to "Chooka" Howell with a well put together 39 while RDCA's Stephen Bridger claimed 3 wickets for just 12 runs.

Veterans' Annual Rep' Challenge   (posted: 13 Dec '07)

On Sunday 16th December 2007 the BHRDCA Vet's take on arch rivals RDCA in our annual over-40 (Masters) and over-50 (Legends) challenge. Ably hosted on turf by the Croydon Cricket Club these 72 over 1-day matches display the very best of our game to spectators both in relation to the standard of competition and the spirit of cricket.

At 12noon the over-50 Legends game will commence first on the Fred Geale Oval, Norton Rd Croydon (Mel: 50.K5) with over-40 Masters an hour later (1:00pm) at Croydon Oval, Hewish Rd Croydon (Mel: 50.K3). This will allow the over-50s to finish first and for all to gather at Croydon Park for the over-40 finish and after match formalities in the clubrooms.

After Round 3   (posted: 28 Nov '07)

Mazenod and Park Orchards A division have extended their unbeaten records with wins against Heatherdale and East Doncaster respectively. Mitcham in the replay of last years grand final showdown were again triumphant over Mont Albert inflicting their first loss of the season. The final match saw Heathmont finally get into the winners circle against the luckless Surrey Hlls who are finding it a little slow getting back into Vets cricket mode following a season on the sidelines. All attention next round will be on the clash between Mazenod and Park Orchards which should be a cracker.

After Round 2   (posted: 15 Nov '07)

In A division, Mont Albert Blue have again shown they will be a force to be reckoned with. Mazenod have jumped to the top of the table and will shake up a number of Div A teams in their first season at this level. Last years Premiers Mitcham have already suffered their first loss at the hands of promoted Park Orchards and the fight for top four positions will be very interesting to watch over the next few weeks. Check out our first newsletter for the season (below) which includes the ladders for all grades.
